People are at the heart of everything we do as a business. The well-being of our tenants, employees and the community at large is critical to our success. That is why we place great importance on being responsible corporate citizens and embracing sustainable development.

We are proud to announce that The Link REIT has recently been placed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index (DJSI Asia Pacific) 2013/2014, providing further international recognition of our efforts towards sustainability following our inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series earlier this year. We are the first and only Hong Kong REIT to be added to the DJSI Asia Pacific, demonstrating the strong foundations our team has put in place towards building a sustainable future.

The initiatives and innovations we bring to our business operations have not only enhanced the shopping experience of our customers; they have also brought about positive changes for our stakeholder groups.

In our pursuit of community sustainability, we have, for a long time, offered concessionary rent and venue sponsorship. In January, we took this a step further with the launch of our “The Link Together Initiatives” programme which makes direct donations and encourages employee participation to enhance our role in supporting the community. After careful consideration, we selected 10 community projects to receive more than HK$10 million in donations. These ranged from a project that helps underprivileged families through food and toy donation, to dance training for youngsters, to initiatives involving mobile playgrounds and health services. Between them, these represent a rich and diverse collection of projects aimed at helping the elderly, children and young people.

We firmly believe that sustainability and business development go hand in hand and mutually reinforce each other. That is why our support for the community goes beyond money and assets, and strongly involves our most important resources – our employees and tenant network. We encourage our team members, and our tenants, to join us in giving back to the community. Our employees will participate in our “The Link Together Initiatives” to help maximise their results. Similarly, under “The Link Community Sports Academy” – a community programme we set up a year ago to promote sports and health – we have invited tenants to join in by making shopping and dining offers available to participants.

Our tenants are amongst our key stakeholders and our most important business partners. We appreciate how they have to deal with the fast-changing retail sector and constant shifts in customer preferences. We are therefore striving to promote their sustainable development and help them capture new business opportunities by organising promotional events that boost their footfall, arranging workshops to enhance their business skills, and upgrading our centres through asset enhancement works.

Our determination to be an employer of choice is reflected in our efforts to improve employee sustainability in recent years. We have stepped up our investment in employee training and welfare, with measures such as the Employee Unit Purchase Plan, the launch of a Staff Work-Life Balance Centre, an Executive Diploma Programme in Shopping Mall Management, a Mystery Shopper Programme, and paternity and birthday leave.

The global recognition we have received for our efforts to improve sustainability helps drive us forward to greater achievements and initiatives. We are committed to continuing to do what we can to be good corporate citizens and to do everything in our power to improve and enrich the lives of our tenants, our employees, and everyone we come into contact with through our work.
