Our neighbourhoods are filled with cultural and ecological treasures yet to be explored. Sponsored by the Link Together Initiatives, Jane Goodall Institute’s Green Community Builder project trains young people as green ambassadors to develop eco-routes and e-maps and to organise public eco-tours around Link’s properties.

Yoki, a young volunteer for the project residing near Choi Yuen Plaza in Sheung Shui, serves as a guide for an eco-tour that begins at Butterfly Plaza in Tuen Mun and explores special plant species at Butterfly Beach area.

“It is a unique chance for me to pursue my interest in geography, and get a better understanding of ecology, plants and the natural environment,” says Yoki. “I have come to notice and recognise the trees and plants in my own neighbourhood. At the same time, I have sharpened my communication skills and acquired on-the-ground experience in leading a tour group, which is beneficial for personal development. I would certainly recommend my friends to join in too!”

In the run-up to the Year of the Dog, six adorable guide dog puppies were born to guide dog Fleur of the Link-sponsored “Guide Dogs Breeding and Education” project, joining the first litter of seven guide dog puppies born in early 2017. The puppies were given names through voting by students from 60 primary schools.
