2014/15 The Link Together Initiatives

Nine New Sponsored Projects to Serve the Community with Love

The 10 community projects sponsored by The Link Together Initiatives 2013/14 have come to an end with positive impact, enhancing the quality of life of children, youths and the elderly. Meanwhile, after careful assessment by the Selection Committee and the Board, the new community projects for the coming year have been selected. In 2014/15, we will donate about HK$7.5 million to nine community projects, aiming to serve 45,000 people in 16 districts.

We again received an overwhelming response this year from the social service sector with around 150 applications. The selected projects include unique and innovative features, including three projects extending services from last year, one food redistribution project and one barrier free access project. This combination of projects contributes to our mission to enhance sustainable development of the communities where we operate, and it is in line with our direction to create a community of social inclusion. The new projects kicked off successively in September.

In order to promote sustainable development, a barrier-free community and an inclusive society on a wider scale, a series of educational programmes will be included as part of these new projects. In addition, the projects will actively engage our tenants and volunteer teams, and more related activities will be organised in our shopping centres. This concerted effort by various groups will help augment the programmer's community impact.

Going the Extra Mile to
Care for the Community

We have walked an extra mile to mitigate inconveniences caused during the renovation period of a property with caring customer service.

The first phase of the Lung Cheung Plaza asset enhancement project started in June. In consideration of the nearby residents' shopping needs at Wong Tai Sin Plaza, The Link introduced Caring Customer Service. Customer service ambassadors deliver goods for customers from Wong Tai Sin Plaza to Lung Cheung Plaza for free during designated time. Although the walking time only lasts for around 5-10 minutes, the introduction has been well received by the elderly and handicapped with several dozen users per day.

In addition, to cater for the needs of visually impaired residents, The Link provided free guiding services to familiarise them with the new routes in place during the construction period. Every day in the morning and evening, customer service ambassadors took the time to lead those in need to make trips between Wong Tai Sin MTR station, Lung Cheung Plaza and the mall's entrance near Upper Wong Tai Sin Estate. After two months of implementation, visually impaired residents were able to memorise the new routes and were able to walk independently in the area by themselves.

The asset enhancement project aims to provide a better shopping environment with more choices for both tenants and customers. The Link seeks to minimise the impact caused by the renovation and offer these heartfelt services to the community.

Hong Kong's First-Ever Service Providers Conference to Promote Sustainable Partnerships

A culture of sustainable development is integrated throughout The Link's everyday business operations. Understanding of this concept by service providers is vital to strengthening The Link's sustainable development strategy. The alignment of understanding and the establishment of partnerships can help break down existing barriers and overcome many sustainability challenges, including solving logistical issues, enhancing efficiency and developing sustainable business models. To this end, The Link organised Hong Kong's first-ever conference on sustainability for service providers on 21 October. The conference was attended by over 200 participants from over 80 organisations.

The theme of the conference was "Driving Business Success through Sustainable Partnerships". It was The Link's honour to have invited Dr Christine Loh, JP, Under Secretary for the Environment, HKSAR Government to attend the conference and deliver the keynote speech. Dr Loh shared with participants ways to embed sustainability into everyday business and the roles that the government and the private sector can play.

George Hongchoy, CEO of The Link, said, "We hope that by establishing strong collaborative partnerships with our service providers, we can make our business more sustainable and, more importantly, contribute further to the sustainable development of Hong Kong."
